Djalma Marques is a distinguished physician, researcher, and academic whose career combines scientific excellence, social commitment, and remarkable contributions to the arts. A Christian, he holds a Master's in Medical Physiopathology and a PhD in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona, where he graduated with the highest distinction: "Sobresaliente Cum Laude." His solid, international academic background underpins a career of great relevance in medicine and academia. He holds Chair 37 of the Academic Board of Medical Sciences at the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Arts, History and Literature, actively contributing to the scientific and institutional development of the fellowship. He serves as an Ad Hoc Consultant for the Ibero-American Science and Technology for Development Program and as a thesis advisor in postgraduate programs at universities in Brazil and Europe, participating in the training of new generations of researchers. Throughout his career, he has coordinated important research projects funded by prestigious institutions such as CNPq, CAPES, FINEP, FACEPE, and the Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional. He has been a professor at Brazilian institutions such as the Federal University of Paraíba and the Federal University of Pernambuco, as well as at European and American universities. As a researcher at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), he stood out as the creator and coordinator of the Brazilian Center for Health & Arts (CEBS-ART/Fiocruz) and the National Center for Probiotic Research. Alongside his scientific career, he has a notable artistic profile. Trained at the School of Fine Arts at UFPE, he is a classical guitar soloist who has performed in several European countries and in the United States. A winner of national and international competitions, he has recorded four CDs — three in Brazil with original compositions and one in Barcelona with original arrangements, distributed internationally. In the social field, he carries out voluntary work focused on the rehabilitation of drug dependents, acting in several European countries through the Asociación Reto a la Esperanza. Since 2020, he has been intensely dedicated to confronting the COVID-19 pandemic, having participated as a speaker at international congresses on the subject. He is currently one of the coordinators and Vice-President of Médicos Pela Vida, working to support patients with post-COVID sequelae. His trajectory reflects the union of science, art, and humanitarian commitment, cementing his name as a reference of excellence and dedication to knowledge and society.
