ABOUT ME

Fernando Silva Guimarães is a physiotherapist, graduated in 1992, holding a Master's in Biomedical Engineering and a Doctorate in Sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). He is a Full Professor at the UFRJ Faculty of Physiotherapy, where he has coordinated the Physiotherapy in Intensive Care course since 1996 and leads the Laboratory of Respiratory Physiotherapy and Intensive Care. He has built a solid clinical, academic, and managerial career in major hospitals in Rio de Janeiro, with distinguished work at the Clementino Fraga Filho University Hospital (HUCFF/UFRJ), where he participated in the establishment of the Physiotherapy Service and, during the COVID-19 pandemic, coordinated, trained, and supervised the physiotherapy team. He is currently the Coordinator of the Physiotherapy area of the Multiprofessional Residency at HUCFF/UFRJ. He serves as an advisor in strict sensu postgraduate programs at UFRJ, participates in scientific and technical committees in the field of intensive care physiotherapy, and holds the position of Scientific Coordinator of ASSOBRAFIR – Rio de Janeiro Regional Chapter. He is the author of more than 120 scientific articles, with research focused on mechanical ventilation, respiratory physiotherapy, functional assessment, and rehabilitation of critically ill and hospitalized patients.
