Academic Maria de Fátima Furtado Veloso de Melo graduated in Medicine from Universidade Gama Filho (1987). She completed a medical residency in Orthopedics and Traumatology at Hospital Municipal Miguel Couto. She holds specialist titles in Orthopedics and Traumatology, and in Forensic Medicine and Medical Examination. She trained in spine surgery at the University of California, Sacramento (1992). She holds an MBA in Health Management from Fundação Getulio Vargas (2006), and a postgraduate specialization in Bodily Damage Assessment from the University of Coimbra, Portugal (2017). She was Medical Director at CNIS (2006 to 05/2019), Medical Director at ACE Gestão em Saúde (06/2019 to 04/2020), and Administrative Director of the Institute of Training and Teaching in Medicine and Research (ITEP). She is a professor in the postgraduate program in Forensic Medicine and Medical Examination at FMP/UNIFASE, and a professor in the course on post-traumatic bodily damage assessment at the University of Coimbra. She works as a medical examiner and technical assistant with an emphasis on insurance and civil law cases. She is a board member of the Brazilian Association of Forensic Medicine and Medical Examinations (ABMLPM), Rio de Janeiro Regional Chapter. (Text provided by the author)
