ABOUT ME
Academic Pamela Winnie da Conceição Ramos is co-author of the chapter "Chemical Communication: Olfaction" in the book Advanced Topics in Molecular Entomology, a reference in the field of entomology and vector biochemistry. She received an honorable mention for the best work in the health field at UFRJ and for supervising an award-winning project in health education. Holding a Doctorate in Biochemistry from UFRJ, she investigates OBP proteins in Rhodnius prolixus, focusing on the formation of protein-ligand complexes to identify attractive volatile molecules. Her research resulted in the discovery of compounds with potential for manipulating the vector's chemoreception and in the development of an innovative trap, currently in the patent process. The technology aims at population control of the insect and effective health surveillance strategies, with direct impact on mitigating Chagas disease and a relevant contribution to public health.
